The following books were most helpful in training our
spaniels as hunting dogs and as
well-mannered companions:
- "Raising a Puppy You Can Live With" by Rutherford and
Neil. A must for new puppy owners, breeders and adoptees of older dogs. We
especially like the developmental stage discussion, which even mentions certain things to
do for puppies that will be in field competitions.
- "Gundog Training Spaniels and Retrievers" by Kenneth
Roebuck. Easy-to-understand basics on training a spaniel for the field.
Accompanying video also available.
- "The Complete English Springer Spaniel" by Gasgow and
Roggenkamp. Covers both bench and field Springers with great detail. Of particular
interest are the field training diagrams and the top sires section.
